Assistant/Associate Professor in Interactive Media and Computer Graphics
At Purdue University, the Department of Computer Graphics Technology (CGT) is one of six units in the Purdue Polytechnic Institute. CGT grants Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral degrees and Purdue is a world-renowned public land grant institution. The department includes majors in game development and design, animation and visual effects, data visualization, building information modeling, digital enterprise systems, web programming and design, and UX design. The Department of Computer Graphics Technology at Purdue University is seeking to fill three tenure/tenure-track positions on the West Lafayette, Indiana campus, beginning in August 2022. CGT balances undergraduate and graduate education with a strong research and engagement agenda. We are a research-intensive department focused on applied research informed by close engagement with industry.
Qualifications: An earned PhD in a field related to interactive media and computer graphics such as computer science, informatics, computer engineering, or similar, completed by August 1, 2022. Focus areas may include interactive and human-centered computing, AR/VR/xR, physical computing, computer science, digital media, information sciences, HCI, computational media, information design, tangible and embodied interaction, and visualization. Evidence of the ability to pursue interdisciplinary funded research and work with and teach diverse groups of students is required. The candidate should demonstrate competence in teaching practical programming and software development skills.
Job Description: The Department of Computer Graphics Technology at Purdue University (CGT) seeks a tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor in the field of interactive computer graphics. The faculty member will engage in research and teaching in interactive computer graphics; VR/AR; wearable, mobile, and ubiquitous systems; interaction design; human-centered AI; programming of interactive applications; gaming; or visualization. Candidates should be prepared to teach programming, software engineering and application development, or related skills. The prospective faculty will support the undergraduate majors in CGT, advise master’s and doctoral students, develop and conduct an actively funded research program, and provide service and engagement work.
Duties: Commitment to teaching, scholarly activity, and the building of an active research program are required. Demonstrating teaching experience; scholarly research, and funded activities for an active research program; teaching and developing graduate and undergraduate courses, and mentoring are expected. Ideal competencies include but are not limited to research and development of physical and programming artifacts in HCI.
