First IEEE VIS Workshop on Progressive Data Analysis and Visualization
(PDAV)

October 14, 8:30-11:30 am EDT at IEEE VIS 2024 <https://ieeevis.org/>,
St. Pete Beach, Florida, and virtual

The program of the workshop is now online:
    https://ieee-vis-pdav.github.io/program
    <https://ieee-vis-pdav.github.io/program>

With three inspiring keynotes on very diverse and advanced domains and
paper presentations:

  *

The Time for Progressive Visualization is Increasingly Now, Danyel
    Fisher, USA

  *

A Progressive Perspective on Topological Data Analysis, Julien
    Tierny, Université Paris-Sorbonne, FR

  *

Explaining incremental models, Barbara Hammer, Chair of the Machine
Learning research group at the Research Institute for Cognitive
Interaction Technology (CITEC), Bielefeld University, DE

The workshop is hybrid to allow all the communities concerned by
scalability in data exploration to attend, including data management,
simulation, statistics, machine learning, and visualization. IEEE VIS
2024's virtual registration
<https://ieeevis.org/year/2024/info/registration/conference-registration>only
costs $20, so don't hesitate to attend!

What is Progressive Data Analysis and Visualization?

Progressive Data Analysis and Visualization (PDAV) is a novel
programming paradigm designed to achieve scalability in data
exploration, interactive visualization, and visual analytics.

It controls latency by replacing long computations with a series of
smaller computations with bounded latency, improving iteratively until
the whole computation is completed or until the user is satisfied with
the latest iteration and stops.

With PDAV, visual exploration systems can scale to large data sizes and
use complex algorithms interactively, provided they are adapted to run
progressively. This workshop is aimed at explaining and accelerating the
development of the paradigm.
