and technologies, computer-supported collaboration, computer-supported
learning, creativity & cognition, human-AI collaboration, VR/AR/XR, ….
*# About Télécom Paris and the Institut Polytechnique de Paris*
Télécom Paris is a founding school of the Institut Polytechnique de Paris.
It is the top-ranked French higher education and research institution in
the fields of computer science, engineering and digital technology. As part
of the «grande école» public higher education system in France, it is a
competitive variant to universities with student admission ratios of around
5–10%.
Télécom Paris was founded in 1878 and invented the term
“telecommunication.” In 2019, the school joined four other grandes écoles
(École Polytechnique, ENSAE, ENSTA, and Télécom SudParis) to create the
Institut Polytechnique de Paris, a top-50 ranked institution for Computer
Science & Information systems worldwide.
*# About the Research Group*
Research activities will be conducted in the DIVA (Design, Interaction,
Visualisation & Applications) group of the Computer Science & Networking
department. The group research activities focus on novel interaction
techniques (particularly with respect to large and small-scale devices),
information visualisation, VR/AR/XR, digital fabrication & design, and new
technologies for teaching.
The successful candidate will lead HCI research and is expected to develop
and reinforce the team’s leadership in these areas and to contribute to the
team’s multidisciplinary focus. Candidates should have a track record of
high-quality publications in HCI and/or related fields.
The candidate will also work in collaboration with faculty in the design,
psychology/ergonomics, 3D graphics, and multimedia groups of the LTCI and
CNRS I3 research laboratories of Télécom Paris and the broader Institut
Polytechnique de Paris community.
*# Candidate Requirements*
Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Computer Science, HCI, or equivalent.
Candidates who do not currently hold a Ph.D., but whose Ph.D. defense is
imminent may also be considered. French is not required, but candidates
must be willing to learn.
*# Teaching Context*
Teaching activities in these domains and in computer science (programming,
software engineering, etc.) will take place at Télécom Paris and Institut
Polytechnique de Paris.
*# Academic Rank & Career Evolution*
The proposed position is a full-time, permanent position (with tenure, “CDI
de droit publique”). Depending on level of experience, the successful
candidate will obtain the title of (tenured) Assistant Professor or
Associate Professor. The latter is given to the candidates having the
French habilitation diploma, HDR (Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches) or
an equivalent international academic experience.
*# Surroundings*
In October 2019, the school inaugurated its new building on the Institut
Polytechnique de Paris campus. The campus is accessible by public
transportation (2 RER stations, several bus lines, and opening in 2026, a
new metro line). Adjacent to the Vallée de Chevreuse national park, it is
approximately 30 minutes from Paris. Paris is one of the most visited
cities in the world and offers a wide variety of museums, theaters, art and
design exhibitions as well as lively artistic, athletic, music, scientific,
technology, and nightlife scenes.
*# Selection Process*
Selected candidates may be invited to give an informal research talk
(in-person or remote)
Talks may be scheduled during the open call period and given between the
application deadline and formal auditions.
Application deadline: April 17, 2024.
