ACM Spatial User Interaction 2020: Call for Demo Submissions



We invite you to showcase your demo at the ACM Symposium on Spatial User Interaction (SUI 2020, https://sui.acm.org/2020/), which will be held virtually from 31 October to 1 November 2020. Demos offer you the opportunity of engaging the audience of the Symposium at a personal level, elicit feedback on your work, and discuss potential collaborations in an informal manner.

We seek exciting research demonstrations, interactive experiences or commercial products from individuals, laboratories or research groups (academic, government, or industrial) from all areas of spatial user interaction. We are also open to artists who are focusing on the intersection between artistic expression and the technological mediums enabling spatial interaction. You can submit both a paper and a demo on the same topic, and some authors of otherwise rejected papers will be invited to present their work as a demo. Extra information such as supplementary videos may also be submitted. These will be taken into account during the review process and may be included in the final publication.

- Interaction on spatial, stereoscopic, and 3D displays

- Evaluation methods for spatial user interaction

- Collaborative interaction in 3D space

- Design and user experience (UX) for spatial user interaction

- Applications of human spatial perception to interaction

- Adaptive and perceptual-inspired spatial user interaction

- Applications of spatial UIs, such as games, entertainment, CAD, education

- Gesture-based spatial interaction

- Tangible spatial user interaction

- Multi-touch technologies for spatial user interaction

- Desktop interfaces for spatial interaction

- Multisensory and other novel forms of spatial user interaction

- Submission Deadline: August 14, 2020, 23:59 (Anywhere on Earth<https://www.timeanddate.com/time/zones/aoe>)

- Author Notification: August 28, 2020

- Camera Ready  Deadline: September 4, 2020


Submission Instructions

  *   Demo proposals should be prepared as a two-page abstract in the ACM SIG Proceedings format<http://www.acm.org/publications/article-templates/proceedings-template.html> and submitted as PDF in camera-ready format. For the LaTeX version, the correct template to use is sigconf. The demo abstracts will be included in the ACM Digital Library.

  *   Also, a mandatory explanatory video of the demo should be included in the original submission. The submission should include information about the overall architecture of the system, installation, exhibit or performance, interaction with the audience, foreseen benefits to audience members, as well as its relevance and impact on the SUI community, emphasizing on the novelty and rationale. In addition, a short paragraph with a description of the research lab or creators is strongly encouraged.

  *   Unlike paper submissions, demo submissions are NOT anonymous and should include full names and affiliations of the authors.

  *   Supplementary materials should include a schematic of the layout (showing components such as projectors/cameras) of the demo and a picture showing the demo in action, particularly for presenting the demo physically at the symposium. Demos should be presentable in a form of video presentation or online live demonstration during the symposium.

  *   The authors of the accepted demos must provide a 30-sec brief video of the demo in action, including audio descriptions, for the final camera-ready version. The video should demonstrate how users will interact with the demo as well as any other relevant information about the demo. This video will be used as part of a teaser to publicize the demos in a fast forward type video presentation on the website and to the symposium.

  *   Submissions should be made through the online submission system: Precision Conference System<https://new.precisionconference.com/sui20a/>.

  *   At least one author of each accepted demo will be required to register to present at the symposium. The author is also required to be available during the demo session.
