Scholarships====================IEEE VIS 2018 provides Diversity
Scholarships, which are intended to support early career researchers from
underrepresented groups in computer science to broaden participation. The

Grants====================Submission deadline: September 4, 2018The VIS
conference is excited to support our VISKids and young families! Grants of
up to $500 per family are available for VIS attendees who are bringing
small children to the conference or who incur extra expenses in leaving
their children at home. If requests exceed available funding, or if
additional funding becomes available, preference will be given to students
and early career attendees who are presenting at the conference.For details

Volunteers====================Congrats to Damla Çay for winning the IEEE
VIS 2018 Student Volunteer T-Shirt Design Contest. Her design, BauVis, was
the overwhelming selection in this year's contest, receiving nearly 70% of
the total vote! Design title: BauVisAffiliation: Koç University, Istanbul,
TurkeyStatement: Graphical abstraction is an essential part of
visualization, as it is for the German Art School, Bauhaus. This design is
inspired by the Poster for the 1923 Bauhaus Exhibition in Weimar
<https://www.bauhaus100.de/en/past/works/graphics-typography/plakat-zur-bauhaus-ausstellung-in-weimar-1923/>.
The front side incorporates a composition of the word "VIS", with a hidden
"18", to represent the year 2018. The back side has the initials "SV" and

Submission Deadline: August 24, 2018We invite you to submit to the IEEE
LDAV 2018 Poster Program. Interested authors should submit a two-page
abstract that either:(1) showcases successful stories of applying
visualization to large-scale data intensive application, or(2) highlights
recent such visualization work presented or published in another venue.
Accepted poster abstracts will be included in the symposium
proceedings.Modern large-scale scientific simulations, sensor networks, and
experiments are generating enormous datasets. Managing and analyzing large
datasets to generate insights is critical for a variety of disciplines
including climate science, nuclear physics, security, materials design,
transportation, and urban planning. The 8th IEEE Large Scale Data Analysis
and Visualization (LDAV) symposium, to be held in conjunction with IEEE VIS
2018, is specifically targeting methodological innovation, algorithmic
foundations, and possible end-to-end solutions. The LDAV symposium will
bring together domain scientists, data analysts, visualization researchers,
and users to foster common ground for solving both near- and long-term

topics related to visualization. Be it to share your knowledge in an
informal setting, to discuss methods and trends in visualization research,
to provide information about the VIS organization, or to plan a social
