                                        Preliminary job announcement

The Computer Science Department (Informatik III) of the University of
Bonn, Germany, in collaboration with the department of Knowledge
Discovery of Fraunhofer Institute IAIS invites applications for the
following two positions

          Researcher (Wissenschaftliche/r Mitarbeiter/in)
  - visual and algorithmic analysis of movement and event data –
             (PostDoctoral researcher and PhD student)

The positions are co-funded by DFG Priority research programme on
“Volunteered Geographic Information: Interpretation, Visualisation and
Social Computing” (SPP 1894) and Horizon 2020 projects
  datAcron (http://ai-group.ds.unipi.gr/datacron/datacron),
  VaVeL (http://www.vavel-project.eu/),
  SoBigData (http://www.sobigdata.eu/),
  INTUIT (http://www.intuit-sesar.eu/) and
  BigData4ATM (http://www.bigdata4atm-sesar.eu/).
The positions are a part of the joint research group of the University
of Bonn and Fraunhofer Institute IAIS, which focuses on visual analytics
and knowledge discovery in databases. The group has an excellent record
of international projects, scientific results, and publications at
prestigious conferences and in highly reputed journals.

The candidate would elaborate and develop scalable visual and
algorithmic methods for the analysis of different types of
spatiotemporal data (movement data, events, spatial time series),
which will be capable to deal with the high complexity of geographical
space, time, and multidimensional attributes.

The candidate is expected to have completed a Diploma, Master degree,
or (preferably) PhD in Computer Science and proven capabilities in
software engineering (Java, SQL) and algorithms. Knowledge of Data
Mining and Information Visualization is a prerequisite. Knowledge of
GPU programming, Geographical Information Systems and practical
handling of spatiotemporal data is an advantage. The candidate should
be fluent in English and have good writing skills. For non-German
speakers gradual learning of the German language is required.
EU citizenship is necessary.

The positions are available for an initial period of 24 months, with
possible extension till 3 years. Anticipated start date is
October-December 2016. Salary is according to EG 13, TV-öD.
