Information Technology Special Issue on Visual Analytics

First call for papers
Full papers due by July 18, 2014
-----------------------------------------------------------

We invite submissions to a forthcoming special issue on Visual Analytics
of the Information Technology journal published by de Gruyter Oldenbourg
Scientific Publishing.

Visual Analytics is the science of analytical reasoning supported by
highly interactive visual interfaces. Researchers in this fast growing
field regularly consider the design, implementation, application and
evaluation of methods that tightly integrate appropriate methods from
data analysis and interactive data visualization, with the aim of
solving real-world analysis problems. Innovative Visual Analytics
approaches to date have been successfully applied in many domains where
large amounts of complex data need to be explored and understood for
effective decision making. Examples of the many challenging fields of
application for Visual Analytics systems include, among others, problems
in the natural and social sciences, the humanities, in business
analytics, geospatial information systems, or multimedia analytics.

Topics of interest for the special issue include but are not limited to:

• Scalable visual analytics representations and interaction techniques
• User steering of data analysis methods and parameter space analysis
• Visual Analytics approaches for heterogeneous data analysis problems
• Visual Analytics approaches for large text and video collections
• Spatiotemporal data analytics and visualization
• Big data analytics including very high-dimensional data
• Scientific applications, e.g., in Bioinformatics and Public Health
• Collaborative and distributed analysis processes support

Important dates:

• Abstracts due: July 11, 2014
• Submissions due: July 18, 2014
• Conditional notification: September 15, 2014
• Revised papers due: October 15, 2014
• Camera ready papers due: November 15, 2014
• Special issue publication: 1/2015 or 2/2015

it – Information Technology was founded in 1958 and is the longest
established German journal in the field of information technology. The
main focus of the scientific journal is the publication of methods and
innovative applications of informatics and information technology which
have been developed worldwide - with an emphasis on the German language
area - and which are on the cusp of industrial application. It is
published by de Gruyter Oldenbourg Scientific Publishing. An overview of
previous special issues can be found at
http://www.informatik.uni-halle.de/ti/it/themenhefte/.

Submission Information:

Submissions to the special issue must comprise original and unpublished
work on Visual Analytics and will undergo a peer review process for
selection. Submissions can be up to 6 pages at about 5.000 characters
less figures and tables. Please use the Stylefiles template available at
http://www.degruyter.com/dg/page/752/fr-autoren-herausgeber for
preparing submissions. Authors intending to submit a paper to the
special issue are kindly asked to indicate their intent to do so by
email to the guest editors. Prior to the full paper submission, we also
ask for submission of an abstract by email to the guest editors until
July 11, 2014. Full paper submissions need to be made through the it
